Machine-gun fire started to ring out and I flattened myself into the soil. But despite the bullets flying overhead, I couldn't help a smile. This is what I had wanted for so long - to get to the front line and defend innocent people.

In 2015, civilian Tim Locks headed to Kurdistan to fight ISIS. He sold his house to raise money, put himself through arms training, sourced his equipment on eBay and found a group of volunteers to join. But things didn't exactly go according to plan.

In Fighting ISIS Tim takes us onto the front line, with the enemy on the horizon and mortar rounds thudding down. He introduces us to some of the oddballs who came to join the war, as well as the British and American ex-soldiers he was proud to fight alongside.
