Barns of Western Canada

Western Canada is home to an amazing range of barn styles. Settlers from all over the world brought their unique methods of barn-building with them, creating a picturesque legacy of farm architecture. The construction of these buildings is intertwined with the settlement of the west and with the memories of those who live in or visit the area.

Bob Hainstock collected photographs and stories of western barns for many years while working as a photographer for the Manitoba Co-operator. His two year feature series on barns drew a tremendous response from readers and barn enthusiasts. This book was the result.

Over 150 color and black & white photographs combine with detailed information on the history, construction, and significance of barns in the western landscape to form a book as beautiful as it is engaging.
