Small Great Things

Ruth is a black nurse who has worked in hospitals delivering babies for more than 20 years. When a young couple come in, it is business as usual - until after the birth, when the husband shows Ruth's supervisor his swastika tattoo, and says he does not want her or anyone like her to touch his boy. And Ruth does not. Until then something goes wrong and the baby goes into cardio-respiratory failure. Ruth is only nurse available, so she treats the baby. But the baby dies - and Ruth is charged with negligent homicide by the state.
