Los islotes de Langerhans parecen estar envueltos por una membrana muy delgada y rodeados por una malla de abun dantes capilares sanguíneos, un poco varicosos y dilatados, a tal punto que la luz es mucho mayor que la de los capilares vecinos del parénquima acinoso. Los islotes a veces se unen, se sueldan por la periferia constituyendo los islotes compuestos.
