Excerpt from The Shadrach: And Other Stories
When I awoke the next morning I knew it must be a fine day, because I could see through the Opening of the curtains which hung at the entrance Of my little cabin the early sunlight upon the water, and I con cluded that there could not be any wind at all at present, for the little vessel was perfectly motionless, and I could not feel the slightest swell nor movement of the water. This was unfortunate, because if we were to reach Boston at the time we expected, we should need a good wind that day.
