Why are we in Magnum ? Is it because it's practical and we'll ail be rich ?
Is it because we want to be listed on the same sheet as Henri Cartier-Bresson ? Is it a hobby ? Is it a habit ? Is it plain laziness ? Is it because as a group we can accomplish more than as individuals in the photo jungle ? Is it because it is a good place to bend a captive audience's ear (staff and photographers) with our triumphs, troubles and frustrations ? Is it because we are too much in debt to quit ? Is it because we stand for a certain quality, human and photographic, and can impose it best together ? Is it all, some or none of these ? (Elliott Erwitt, May 26, 1961)
