The Symphony No.8, together with his unfinished Ninth, has been described as the final stage in this life-long process of finding his one true form of artistic expression. It is a symphony, which is said to present nothing fundamentally new, being somewhat a work in which achievements from his earlier endeavours finally comes to fruition. Nowadays this
symphony is being regarded as one of the most important classical orchestral works from the late nineteenth century.
Reissued in combination with the seldom recorded 0th symphony, this makes a very attractive Bruckner set. A vivid recording from the eighties, now finally reissued on Newton Classics.
