This book provides a comprehensive summary and analysis of research conducted during the last 20 years on the oral language, literacy, and academic development of English language learners in kindergarten to grade 12 in the U.S.A. The book is divided into 6 chapters: Introduction, Oral Language Development, Cross-linguistic and Cross-Modal Issues in Literacy Development, Instructional Issues in Literacy, Academic Achievement, and Conclusions and Implications. The final chapter provides a summary of cross-cutting issues that emerge from the earlier chapters and recommendations for future research.
