Written in a language that is clear, even to the layman, this passionate and meticulous study directly concerns the deepest core of our being: feelings and the world of emotions. The author argues that our relationship with the world is not merely cognitive. He affirms that when looking at the connection between the subject and his environment, we must always take into account a form of relationship that covers everything, from the search for possession to absolute rejection. Feelings--what were classically termed the passions of the soul--are revealed as nothing more than modulations of desire. Psychology is therefore shown as an in-depth investigation of that which shapes the essence of the human being.
