?John Budd's bibliography demonstrates one fact clearly: critical interest in Henry James has not diminished. In the five years covered by his book, an average of 34 dissertations, ten books, and 109 articles appeared each year. Interests of the critics vary widely. Their central concern, however, still is James's style and technique, its unique characteristics, and its relation to general literary modes (melodrama, gothic, realism) and to other literary and art forms (drama, painting, architecture).
