In the coming decades, adaptation to climate change is a vital question for the perpetuation of plant and animal species, including humans. What kind of adaptation do we want to go to? Is the question of adaptation to global warming well addressed regarding humanity well-being and societal progress? The concepts of "adaptation", development dynamics of species including humans and their "relations of dependence", do not seem well understood by opinion leadership, public decision-makers or profanes. Three different perspectives of a common conception of adaptation in Western societies are suggested by the authors: bioadequacy, compensation and adaptation. These three meanings contribute to positioning mankind as a biological being and an animal species in relation to domestic and wild species. In the context of our development dynamic in urban and suburban areas, this discernment contributes to open a dialogue of the real aptitudes of all species responses when confronted to meteorological hazards in a changing climate.
