What ist so unique about Martin Luther that he is still talked about after 500 years?

As a simple, lowly monk he realized that something was fundamentally wrong with the all-powerful church. Martin Luther risked his life for what he believed and refused to give in to the highest authorities, remaining true to his conscience.

Martin Luther paved the way for religious freedom and encouraged active opposition fo false claims. Certainly, he had human weaknesses. Yet, his brave defiance of authority forms the bedrock of every free way of life.
