Kazakhstan: From the Sky

Kasachstan: weite Steppen, tiefe Seen, schneebedeckte Berge, unberührte Natur in Cinemascope - auf der anderen Seite aufstrebende Städte mit futuristischem Gesicht, dazu ein überaus reiches kulturelles Erbe. Dieses hat auch dazu beigetragen, dass in Kasachstan bereits gelebt wird, was in so vielen Ländern noch Wunschzustand ist: das harmonische Miteinander von über 40 Glaubensrichtungen. Alle drei Jahre (auch in 2012) findet deshalb dort der "Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions" statt.

Auch abseits der Religion versteht es Kasachstan zu beeindrucken:

1. 500 Flüsse, 48.000 große und kleine Seen, vom Kaspischen Meer bis zum Balchaschsee, der zur Hälfte aus Süß- und zur Hälfte aus Salzwasser besteht. Dazu unermessliche Bodenschätze und Kostbarkeiten, Schätze aus Flora und Fauna, die in zwöf Nationalparks bestaunt werden können. Die beeindruckenden Luftaufnahmen des renommierten Fotografen Berik Barysbekov gestatten auch Einblicke in Landschaften, die man selten zu sehen bekommt, Hochgebirge etwa oder Wüsten - unwirtlich, aber faszinierend.

Dieser eindrucksvolle Bildband (zweisprachig Kasachisch/Englisch) lädt als der Erste seiner Art dazu ein, dieses touristisch noch relativ unerschlossene Land kennenzulernen: in 7 Bildkapiteln wird das Land "überflogen": der erste Teil ist der Hauptstadt Astana gewidmet, die folgenden fünf stellen Süd-, Zentral-, Ost-, Nord- und Westkasachstan vor. Das letzte Kapitel führt durch das kulturelle Zentrum des Landes, Almaty.


Located in the heart of the Eurasian continent, Kazakhstan covers the territory of

1. 7 million square kilometers which makes it the ninth largest country in the world and the world"s largest landlocked country. It"s territory is comparable with that of western Europe.

The economy exceeds those of all of the Central Asian countries taken together, mainly due to tremendous natural resources and the reputation of the country as both politically and economically stable. Rich mineral and hydrocarbon resources, as well as sound agricultural capacity provide for the Kazakhstan"s economic development and national safety.Mineral resources include 99 of 105 chemical elements of the Mendeleyev"s Periodic Table. More than 60 of them are being successfully explored and processed. Kazakhstan is holding the leading position in the world explored zink reserves, tungsten and barites; second - for silver, lead and chromites; third - for copper and flourites; fourth - for molybdenum; and sixth - for gold.

There are more than 170 explored oil and gas fields with the reserves exceeding the Western Europe"s total reserves: around 40 billion barrels of oil and 3 trillion cubic meters of gas. Kazakhstan"s current economic priorities include: expansion of energy resource development and export worldwide; achievement of stable growth of the national economy; further diversification of the economy through the development of non-primary goods sectors; raising Kazakhstan"s competitive ability and strengthening mutual relations with the neighboring countries and the world"s leading economies.
