Suggérant une autre histoire de l'art minimal, l'ouvrage éclaire les foyers communs et les regards croisés où s'entremêlent les arts visuels et la danse dans les années 1960 et 1970 à New York. On ne peut que reconnaître aujourd'hui dans le champ artistique les trajectoires radicalement innovantes tracées par les figures pionnières de la Postmodern Dance américaine, notamment Trisha Brown, Lucinda Childs, Simone Forti, Steve Paxton et Yvonne Rainer. Est envisagée ici une histoire collective, mettant sur un pied d'égalité ces gestes concis, directs et sans artifice qui ont conjointement bouleversé toutes les formes de l'art et nourri le dialogue entre l'objet et l'espace-temps du spectateur qui caractérise les oeuvres de Robert Morris, Carl Andre et Donald Judd entre autres. Une nouvelle génération d'auteures aborde ce pan majeur de l'histoire de l'abstraction avec une approche transdisciplinaire, parallèlement à des textes historiques d'artistes et un abondant appareil documentaire.

Suggesting another history of Minimal Art, this publication examines intersecting perspectives on visual art and dance of the nineteen-sixties and nineteen-seventies in New York. Looking back at the history of art, we can only acknowledge today the radically trail-blazing paths taken by the pioneering figures of American Postmodern Dance-most notably Trisha Brown, Lucinda Childs, Simone Forti, Steve Paxton, and Yvonne Rainer. A collective history is attempted here, gathering these concise and direct movements that revolutionized visual and performing arts. They nourished the dialogue between the object and the space-time dimension occupied by the viewer, as experienced in the works of Robert Morris, Carl Andre, Donald Judd, and many others. A new generation of authors tackles this major chapter of the history of abstraction with a transmedia approach. Source texts by the artists and a scientific chronology are included.
