Marte Meo comes from the Latin and means doing something "of one's own accord". The name was chosen by the founder of this method, Maria Aarts, to express the connection between professional counseling and dedicated self-help. At the centre of the method lies help for the parents, who learn how they can support their child's development in everyday life through the use of proper communication.
