"Marte Meo" is from the Latin and means to do something "of your own accord." The name was chosen by the founder of the method, Maria Aarts, to express the connection between professional counselling and dedicated self-help. At the center of the method lies, on the one hand, help for parents, who experience how they can support the development of their child in everyday life through proper communication. To this end, scenes from everyday situations are captured on video, carefully analysed and discussed with the clients. Successful communication in which parents come into contact with their child share a positive experience with the child or impart a proper orientation, and they serve as resources for coping with difficult situations. On the other hand, professionals working in the areas of youth care, social services or healthcare receive valuable information on how to provide support for others or accompany them when dealing with their everyday life. The Marte Meo method shows how to make better contact with those for whom we are responsible, take care of, counsel or teach, in order to better perceive their needs and foster their abilities. The strength of Marte Meo lies in the medium of video, which delivers images that allow a completely new insight into one"s own actions.
