Erstmals in der Geschichte ihrer seit über fünf Jahrzehnten geführten bilateralen Dialoge zwischen Orthodoxie und Protestantismus behandeln beide Delegationen die Rolle und das Verständnis der Bilder in der Frömmigkeit beider Kirchen. Die Beiträge in diesem Band fragen nicht nur nach den biblischen Grundlagen und der liturgischen Einbindung der Bilder, sondern nehmen auch die Herausforderung in den Blick, die Bildertheologien beider Kirchen gegenüber säkularen Bilderverständnissen zu entfalten.

For the first time after more than five decades of bilateral dialogue between Orthodox and Protestant Churches both sides are dealing with the role and the understanding of images in the spiritual life of both churches. The contributions contained in this volume do not only ask for the biblical foundations and the liturgical contexts of the images but also face the challenge to explain the meaning of Christian images to the secular world.
