Palin's only other novel, "Hemingway's Chair", sold more than 200,000 copies in the UK alone. A new TV series is scheduled for the autumn, and this will also feed publicity for the novel, which touches on themes of private life versus public persona, media manipulation and the balance between progress and environmentalism.
