Gemma Cairney is a multi-award-winning broadcaster, published author, production company founder, magpie, activist and life enthusiast.
After a brief go at drama school and a stint working in fashion in her early twenties, Gemma Cairney is now a BBC broadcaster, who has won awards for making acclaimed television documentaries including One Hundred Years of the Women's Movement, Riots: The Aftershock and Dying for Clear Skin.
Gemma has presented shows and one-offs for BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, 2, 3, 4, 4 Extra, 6Music and BBC World Service. For two years she hosted the BBC 1 radio show The Surgery, offering guidance and support on life issues. Gemma has also written a book for young people, called Open, that explores growing up and how to be a woman in the modern world. She is a founder of boutique production company - Boom Shakalaka Productions.
Gemma is an Ambassador for Oxfam and lends her support to Women's Aid.
In any spare time, Gemma likes to write, explore the planet, trek mountains and DJ garage classics.
