Hamburg, the British Occupied Zone, 1946. Colonel Lewis Morgan is in charge of rebuilding the devastated city and de-Nazifying its defeated people. He is requisitioned a fine house to the North of the city, where he will be joined by his grieving wife Rachael and only remaining son Edmund. But rather than force its owners, a German widower and his daughter, to leave, Lewis insists the two families live together. In this charged and claustrophobic atmosphere, enmity and grief give way to passion and betrayal.
