Le chagrin des Ogres explore le malaise d'une génération et s'adresse à la part d'enfance tapie dans un coin de l'esprit du spectateur, souvent étouffée par la responsabilité et les lois qui le conditionnent.

Nourri du blog personnel de Bastian Bosse - jeune Allemand qui a ouvert le feu dans son ancien lycée avant de se donner la mort - et des interviews de Natascha Kampusch - jeune Autrichienne kidnappée pendant plus de dix ans - Fabrice Murgia tisse, avec Le chagrin des Ogres, un conte onirique qui dépasse la matière des faits-divers.

The sorrow of ogres

A boy and girl are waiting at the foot of the wall. The time has come for them to decide whether they wish to grow up or not. The Sorrow of Ogres explores a generation's malaise. It speaks to the child who lurks deep within the spectator's mind and whose voice is often silenced by a sense of duty and the laws that shape adult life.

Drawing his inspiration from the personal blog kept by Bastian Bosse - a German teenager who opened fire in his old school before turning his gun on himself - and from interviews with Natascha Kampusch - an Austrian teenager who was kidnapped and held captive for over ten years - Fabrice Murgia's The Sorrow of Ogres is a dreamlike tale which goes way beyond a mere retelling of the news.
